While it seems logical to store bananas in a fruit bowl, they often soften and ripen too quickly. So now I keep mine in a corner of the kitchen counter, where they stay fresh for up to a week longer.

I've also found an even more effective way to extend shelf life: I recently discovered that bananas release ethylene gas through their stems. Wrapping the stems in aluminum foil or plastic wrap will keep them fresh for weeks.
